Two Months...

I can't believe another month has passed!  Our sweet boy is two months old and we could not be more in love.  He is seriously the sweetest, most laid back baby ever.  Everyone told me their third baby just goes with the flow, and so far Mason seems to fit the typical third child mold in that way!

Weight: 12.4 lbs
Height: 23"
Size diaper: Size 1
Size clothes: 0-3 month
Eating: Nurses every 2-3 hours during the day and typically every 2-4 hours at night.  He still has to be held up for a good while after eating due to reflux.   Nursing is going really well!  I did get mastitis this month when he went a 5 hour stretch one night, but thankfully the medicine worked quickly and I was feeling better in a couple of days.  I had reduced the amount of lecithin I was taking as well so I have bumped that back up to two in the morning and two at night - that stuff is seriously a miracle supplement for me!  I recommend it to everyone who struggles with clogged ducts and mastitis.
Sleeping:  He is sleeping in his rock n play at night, swaddled in the Miracle Blanket or his velcro swaddle.  He is already managing to bust out of swaddles many nights - he's a strong boy!  For naps he sleeps on his tummy in the bassinet or in someone's arms :)  This mama is tired though - sleep is few and far between for me.  I keep reminding myself that sleep will come one day but boy does that day seem far away right now!

Poor baby is super gassy and grunts all day long.  We have started him on some reflux meds to see if that will help with the grunting and fussy squirming.  I really don't like for him to be on the meds, but it is pretty bad and he is so uncomfortable that I decided to try it.  He will cry and scream until he spits up - it makes me sad!

He has an umbilical hernia that scared me at first - I had no idea what was going on!  Dr. Wilson assures us that it does not bother him and will more than likely go away on its own within the next year.

Mason loves a good cuddle.  He would be perfectly content being held all day long...and between all of us that is generally what happens!

We have seen a couple of real smiles, but nothing consistent yet.

Mason does really well in the car, thankfully!  He gets fussy if we sit still for a while, but as long as the car is moving he seems content and sleeps most of the time.

Here is is getting his first bath in the sink (we have been bathing him on the towels and he loves it, but we tried the sink and he was so happy!)

He has started cooing - my favorite little noises ever!

Mason LOVES his big brother.  Watson has a special way of calming Mason down when he is fussy - it is very helpful and sweet :)

Tummy time is going well - he likes his mirror and looking at his handsome self!  He does not fall asleep every time we try tummy time so we are making improvement!

This tongue is always hanging out!  I have never seen a baby do this but he sure does!  Of course I looked it up online and everything said this is a typical sign for children with Down Syndrome.  We talked with Dr. Wilson about it and she did a thorough check over him and said he definitely does not have Down Syndrome, but his tongue just may be a little big for his mouth right now.  She said as he grows his mouth will too and that little tongue will fit just fine!

Sweet cuddles - I am trying to soak up these days as much as I can.  There are definitely moments that are overwhelming and I find myself wondering how in the world am I going to manage a household of three children, but the Lord is so faithful and sweet in giving me these moments of pure joy with my boy.

Emma loves her brother and is beginning to give him a little more of her time.  She shows him the most attention in the evenings before bed - we can't decide if this is out of wanting to spend time with Mason or if she is just stalling bedtime :)  I have a feeling it's the latter...

This sweet face gets more kisses than you can imagine!  There's one thing for sure Mason, you are on loved little boy!

In The Message version of the Bible, Psalm 127:3 says "Children are God's best gift" - oh how beautiful this truth is!  The Lord has blessed me and Graham with three beautiful, healthy children.  We could not be more thankful.  Thank you, Jesus!

One Month...

Our first month with Mason has been so very sweet.  I have definitely had the typical postpartum cries...every day...every night...but that's to be expected, right?!  Mason could not be a sweeter, easier baby - thank you, Jesus for this!!

Weight: 8lbs 14oz
Size diaper: Newborn
Size clothes: Newborn
Eating: Every 1.5 - 3 hours during the day and every 2.5 - 3 hours during the night.  He is struggling pretty badly with some reflux so I have to hold him up for a while after eating to help with that.  Sweet baby is incredibly gassy and grunts all the time.
Sleeping: Sleeps best when held or on tummy, so all naps are either in my arms or on his tummy in his bassinet.  At night he is sleeping swaddled and in his rock n play.  He would definitely prefer Graham or I hold him all.night.long, but thankfully he does well in the rock n play.  Don't even think about laying him down flat on his back, though!! :)

Meeting Aunt Vangi for the first time...

Mason loves a good swaddle.  He can be fussy and squirmy but as soon as I get him swaddled up he calms down and is able to fall asleep.  Right now we are using blankets for swaddling as well as the velcro swaddles.

Meeting Papaw for the first time...love these special moments with their great-grandfather!

Mason is not a huge fan of the swing but will occasionally fall asleep in it.  Look at that sweet tongue hanging out...he keeps it like that at all times!

Mom has a unique touch with Mason - she can calm him down every.single.time!  I cannot express just how thankful I am for my mom.  Goodness...she has been amazing helping me, taking care of me, and keeping my house clean and organized during this time!

First bottle!  He wasn't sure what to do at first but figured it out and did great with it!  I am having to use a shield when nursing so I think that really helps with the transition back and forth from nursing to a bottle.

His least favorite thing right now is having his diaper changed.

Bath time is a favorite - especially with Manna does it!

Emma loves her baby brother.  She doesn't spend as much time with him as Watson does, but she loves to "give Mase Mase a kiss and a hug"  :)

This is the first time that my sister hasn't had a baby at home when one of my babies is born, so she is really loving the newborn cuddles right now!

Oh how I pray these three will always be the best of friends.  My daily prayer is that they will love the Lord and constantly point one another towards Him in their relationships and conversations.

These two have a special, special bond.  Watson has a way of calming Mason down - it's pretty great!! He loves holding his baby brother and covers him with kisses!

Mason's favorite spot - on his mommy :)

Nannie and Hink came back to Birmingham for a visit this month - we are loving all of this time with them!!

Mason was still pretty jaundiced at his one month appointment so they took some blood to check and make sure everything is okay.  Right now his levels look okay - they think it is just because he is exclusively breastfed and sometimes this can cause extended jaundice.

Snug as a bug.  We keep his rock n play next to the bed in our room - whoever invented this thing is my favorite person.  Ever.

Tummy time = sleepy time...

This is one hungry little boy.  There have been a few days where he has literally nursed every 1.5-2 hours all day and all night.  I am sleepy...but it's so worth it.  I know this is just a stage...I will sleep again...so I'm trying to stay positive!!

We are trying to keep the eat/wake/sleep cycle going, but I am not stressing over it this early on...at all.  It's funny how much more relaxed I am with Mason...guess that's a third child thing!  If he's sleepy, I let him sleep.  If he's hungry, I let him nurse.  If he's fussy...well...I let him nurse :)  Hey..it solves all problems!

Poppa and his buddy.

We are head over heals in love with our sweet boy!!

Emma is THREE!

Emma Carolyn Hill...I cannot believe that you are THREE years old!!

You are dearly loved.  You are full of spunk, attitude, opinions, sass.  You are funny, strong-willed, persistent, cute as a button.  You love to cuddle, dance, sing, tell jokes, and play outside.  You are all girl, all drama, all the time.  You can throw a tantrum one minute and be the sweetest angel the next.  Time out, spankings, getting in trouble...nothing seems to phase you...we are still working on the best way to discipline you!  You adore your brothers, and relish in the attention you receive for being the only daughter in the family.  You almost always have a baby doll with you and care for them so sweetly.  You are nurturing and cautious, yet playful and tough.  You are a mama's girl through and through - and I wouldn't have it any other way!  Words can't express how much I love you, sweet girl!

Emma was adamant about having a Hello Kitty birthday cake!  I don't know how she even knows about Hello Kitty...but her wish was granted :)

Can you tell she just hates being the center of attention... :)

The best of friends!

With Mason being born on April 29, and Emma's birthday being May 2, we didn't exactly get around to doing a party this year... But, we did have our family over for a family birthday party and we also sent donuts to school with her on the morning of her birthday so as far as she knows she had TWO parties!  :)

For as long as she could talk she has told us about "Abby's Cool Car" (her Barbie jeep) and how much she loves it!  She begs to go to their house just so she and her baby doll can ride in the "Cool Car."  When it came time to get her birthday present, there was no question what this girl needed to get...her very own Cool Car!  Nannie and Hink were so generous to gift us with this car for Emma...she LOVES it!!!
